Megatone Studios is a newly designed, professional recording studio located in Madison, WI. Owned and operated by Producer / Engineer / Guitarist Paul Schluter and Engineer / Bassist Darren Soderholm. Formerly known as Sleepless Nights Studios.

With experienced engineers, quality equipment, affordable prices and a comfortable atmosphere, Megatone has been doing top quality production work for the last seven years.

Bands who record at Megatone leave with not only great sounding recordings but also a greater understanding of their songs and even their own playing.

Producer/Engineer Paul Schluter has been recording bands full time since 1996 in these same rooms and has engineered, produced and mixed countless albums for many satisfied clients.

All of the members of our staff are long time musicians.

Paul Schluter - Producer / Engineer / Studio Manager
Paul is a guitarist / songwriter and is an original member of the critically acclaimed band Last Crack. Last Crack released two albums worldwide on Roadrunner Records, had a video in rotation on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball, toured the United States and Europe and recorded with world renowned producers Dave Jerden (Alice In Chains, Jane’s Addiction), Brian Malouf (Queen, Pearl Jam) and Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). Paul was also the guitarist of local favorites Muzzy Luctin & Magic 7 and currently plays in a new project called Good Morning V. Paul is available for session work and has played guitar, bass, keyboards and has sung harmony vocals on sessions for our clients.


Darren Soderholm - Owner / Studio Musician
Darren is a bassist who is a graduate of BIT (Bass Institute of Technology) in Los Angeles and has played in Last Crack, Muzzy Luctin and Magic 7. He has played bass on many sessions for our clients. He is currently the bassist for the band Good Morning V.
 

Zach Brassington - Producer / Engineer
Zach is our right hand man at Megatone and is also an excellent drummer. He has played drums on numerous sessions for our clients. He was a member of the band Seven Signs and currently has a band called Bitter Cold among other projects.


Gustavo Meneses - Producer / Engineer
Gustavo specializes in Electronic and Hip Hop music as well as many other styles.
He also plays piano and is available for session work.


Dan Cochems - Mastering Engineer / Producer / Engineer
Dan is a drummer and songwriter. He does all of the mastering for our clients at Megatone. He has a great attention to detail which makes him a great ear for all of the final touches on our projects. He plays in the bands Sweet Oblivion and Sullivan.


Tanner Phillips - Producer / Engineer
Tanner is a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. He majored in audio engineering and film at MSU and played in popular Michigan bands Madcap and Not Another Hero. He also interned under Andy Patalan (guitarist from the band Sponge) at “The Loft” recording studio in Saline, MI. He currently plays with Paul, Darren and Zach in the band Good Morning V.

Dan Sellmeyer - Producer / Engineer
Dan is a singer and beat writer that specializes in Hip Hop and R&B music. Dan is a graduate of MMI (Madison Music Institute).

Megatone Studios is located in the Madison Music building on the near west side on Madison, just off of the Beltline on the frontage road.

Megatone also does short run CD duplication with full color printing on the CD. Our pricing for recording and duplication is surprisingly low and many of our clients come back again and again.

One of the great advantages of recording at Megatone is that we have a studio DW drum set that is always miked, tuned and ready to record.
We also have a lot of other gear that is available to use for free on your session including Marshall amps, Marshall 4x12 cabinets, a Les Paul guitar,
a Geddy Lee Fender bass, numerous effect pedals and a huge collection of percussion instruments. We also have incredible vocal microphones, including a Neumann U87, as well as Universal Audio preamps to help capture the very best quality of your performances. Megatone uses Cubase
7 and Pro Tools 10 & 11 for recording and mixing all of our audio.
